Design notes

In this landscape layout the event's run sheet is the spine of the page. A fine hour ruler crosses the full width with a shaded night band and a small crescent, and one bold orange bar runs from the kickoff ring past milestone flags (team formed, the build sprint, the demo, the pitch) to a large finish knob. Above it, the countdown reads 00:00:00 with TIME'S UP and the issue date. The name, program and statement stand on the left; the base line carries two signatures, the duration and format, the record's ID and a verification code.

About

Hackathon Certificate Template, Run Sheet Landscape

A hackathon is defined by its clock: a kickoff, a night of building, a hard deadline and a round of demos for the judges. Universities, coding clubs, tech companies and open data groups run them as 24 or 48 hour sprints, and at the end each participant receives a certificate of participation that records the event, the team work and the prototype they presented. Students add it to a CV, professionals to a portfolio.

Wording on the template“Took part in the build from kickoff to the final demo: formed a team, turned an idea into a working prototype against the clock, and pitched it to the judges on demo day.”

Subject: name, your hackathon certificate is ready

Hi name,

Thank you for building with us. You formed a team, worked through the deadline and showed the judges what you made, and that is worth keeping a record of.

Your certificate of participation is ready. Open it to see it, download a copy to print, or share it on LinkedIn next to a link to your project so your network can see what you built.

We hope to see you at the next kickoff.

Hyperstack fills in each person’s name and link when it sends.

Post for the recipient to share

Last weekend our team went from a blank repo to a working prototype in 48 hours, then pitched it to the judges on demo day. Very little sleep, a lot of learning, and great teammates. Proud to share my hackathon certificate of participation. Thank you to the organisers and mentors who made it happen. #Hackathon #BuildInPublic

Printing

Printing it well

Print at actual size

Choose “Actual size” or 100% in the print dialog, not “Fit to page”, so the margins and the QR code keep their size.

Use card, not paper

A matte or silk card of 200–300 gsm (about 80–110 lb cover) feels like an award and does not curl in a frame.

Frame it

A4 fits a standard 21 × 29.7 cm frame; US Letter fits an 8.5 × 11 in frame, or an 11 × 14 in frame with a mat. Hang it on its side, as designed.

Mind the edges

Most home printers leave a thin white border. For a design that runs to the edge, use a print shop or your printer’s borderless setting.

Certificate or badge?

Send both. They do different jobs.

Certificate

  • A full record: name, statement, skills, dates and signatures
  • Printed and framed, or kept as a PDF
  • Opens to a page anyone can verify

Digital badge

  • A small image people put on LinkedIn and in email signatures
  • Carries the verified details inside it (Open Badges 2.0)
  • One click shows who earned it and who issued it
