Above and Beyond Award certificate templates and badges
3 free designs. A set is one design as a badge, a landscape or a portrait certificate, or all three.
Free for up to 20 recipients a year
An above and beyond certificate template is for the moments when someone does more than the role asks: the engineer who stays on a call until the outage is fixed, the nurse who comes back to check on a patient, the colleague who quietly trains the new starter. Managers, HR teams and award panels give it at town halls, team meetings and annual recognition evenings, often after a peer nomination.
A good above and beyond award names the person, says in a sentence or two what they actually did, and lists the qualities it showed, such as initiative, care or extra effort. A date, a signature from someone senior and a credential ID make it a real record rather than a thank-you note.
The designs here come as certificates in A4 and US Letter and as digital badges, so you can print one for the wall and send the same award by email.
Wording
What to write on a above and beyond award certificate
Use these lines as they are, or as a start for your own. Every template comes with wording you can change in the studio.
Above and beyond award wording for a citation
- “For going above and beyond the call of duty to keep our customers safe and informed during the system outage.”
- “In recognition of the extra effort, care and initiative you brought to every shift this year.”
- “For stepping up when the team needed it most, and making a lasting difference to the people we serve.”
Lines for a peer-nominated above and beyond certificate
- “Nominated by your colleagues for the help you give without being asked.”
- “Chosen by your team for turning a difficult quarter into a shared success.”
- “Your peers saw what you did, and they wanted everyone to know.”
Short lines for the badge or a message
- “More than the job asked. Thank you.”
- “Above and beyond, every time.”
- “You went the extra mile, and we noticed.”

FAQ
Questions, answered
Effort that is clearly outside the normal duties of the role or well past the usual standard: covering a gap nobody owned, solving a customer problem end to end, training others unasked, or staying with a crisis until it is resolved. Doing the job well is not enough on its own; the award is for the extra.
Employee of the month goes to one person on a fixed schedule for overall performance. An above and beyond award marks a specific act or period of extra effort, can go to several people at once, and can be given whenever it happens.
Peers usually see the extra effort first, so many programmes let anyone nominate a colleague and ask for a short example. A manager or a small panel then checks the nomination and approves the award, which keeps it fair and consistent.
One or two sentences about what the person did and the difference it made, in concrete terms: the project, the customer or the situation. Avoid generic praise; a specific example is what the recipient and their colleagues will remember.
As close to the event as you can, ideally within a few weeks. Recognition loses its meaning when it arrives months later, so many teams give spot awards straight away and celebrate the year's recipients again at an annual event.
