A best teacher certificate template is for the day a school, a district or an education trust names one teacher above the rest. Unlike a thank-you to the whole staff, a best teacher award is a judgement: nominations come in from students, parents and colleagues, a panel reads the evidence, often watches a lesson, and chooses a single winner.
The title changes from place to place (teacher of the year, outstanding educator, excellence in teaching), but the certificate does the same job. It names the winner and the award, says in a sentence or two why the panel chose them, lists what they were judged on, and carries the signatures of the principal and the person who led the judging.
The designs come as certificates in A4 and US Letter and as digital badges the winner can add to a profile or a job application.
Wording
What to write on a best teacher award certificate
Use these lines as they are, or as a start for your own. Every template comes with wording you can change in the studio.
Citation lines for a teacher of the year award
- “Chosen by the judging panel from every nomination this year, for teaching that lifts every student.”
- “Awarded for outstanding results, inventive lessons and the generous support you give to new colleagues.”
- “Named Teacher of the Year for raising expectations in the classroom and keeping every learner with you.”
Award for best teacher: lines from the judges

- “Your lessons were the ones colleagues asked to watch. This award recognises that example.”
- “From a strong field of nominees, the judges chose you for the progress your classes made this year.”

FAQ
Questions, answered
Most panels look at four things: the progress students make, the quality and variety of lessons, the help the teacher gives colleagues, and work beyond the classroom such as clubs, trips or links with families. Publish the criteria with the call for nominations, so every nominee is judged on the same scale.
A mix works best: a senior leader, a governor or trustee, a past winner and, where possible, someone from outside the school such as a district officer. A parent or student representative can read the nominations, but the final choice should rest with people who have seen the teacher at work.
Some programmes allow it, but most ask for a nomination from a student, a parent or a colleague. A nomination from someone else brings the specific stories the panel needs, so a self-nomination usually still needs a supporting letter.
Yes. One or two sentences from the judges turn the award from a title into a record. Quote what the panel saw, such as a jump in reading scores or a mentoring scheme for new staff, and list the areas the teacher was judged on.
Often it can. In many systems a school's winner can be put forward to a district or state round, and those winners to a national programme. Check the rules of the next round early, because they set their own deadlines and nomination forms.
