A training certificate template gives you a ready record for the moment an employee, contractor or volunteer finishes a training program: onboarding, a new procedure, a machine or system, a refresher. Employers, in-house academies and outside training providers issue them, and the person's manager, HR file and, often, an auditor all rely on them.
A good certificate of training says more than "attended". It names the program, the skills it covered and the level reached, how the training was delivered and assessed, and who signed it off and when. A credential ID and a verification code let anyone check that it is real.
The designs here come as certificates in A4 and US Letter and as digital badges. Print the certificate for the training file and send the same award by email, where the trainee can share it.
Wording
What to write on a training completion certificate
Use these lines as they are, or as a start for your own. Every template comes with wording you can change in the studio.
Wording for a certificate of training completion
- “Has successfully completed the Professional Training Program and was assessed as competent in each listed skill.”
- “For completing 16 hours of instructor-led training, practical exercises and a final assessment.”
- “Has completed the required training and is signed off to work on this procedure without supervision.”
Wording for compliance and refresher training
- “Has completed the annual refresher training and meets the current standard for this role.”
- “Trained and assessed in line with company procedure. Refresher due before the valid-until date.”
Certificate of training participation wording
- “Took part in the full training program and contributed to every practical session.”
- “In recognition of participation in our team training days.”
Short lines for the badge or the email
- “Training complete. Signed off and ready.”
- “Trained, assessed and competent.”

FAQ
Questions, answered
No. A training certificate shows that a person finished a program run by an employer or training provider. A certification is usually granted by an independent body after an exam and often has to be renewed. Many teams issue the first after internal training and pay for the second separately.
The person's name, what the training covered, the date, who delivered or assessed it, and some evidence of competence, such as a passed assessment or a sign-off. ISO 9001, for example, asks organisations to keep documented evidence of competence, so a certificate with these details answers the question quickly.
Say only what happened. If there was no assessment, use completion or participation wording. If a trainer checked the skills in practice, you can state the level reached, such as competent, and name the assessment method.
It depends on the subject and the rules that apply to the role. Safety, equipment and data protection training often has a set refresher period, while general skills training may not need one. When it does, add a valid-until date so the trainee and their manager know when to book the next session.
Yes. List the modules or skills on the certificate and give the program one title. A single record with every module is easier to file and check than a stack of small certificates.
