A valedictorian certificate template gives a school a formal way to record its highest academic honor for a graduating class. The valedictorian is the student who finishes first in the class under the school's own ranking rules, usually the cumulative grade point average across every year, and who is often invited to give the valedictory address, the farewell spoken for the class at commencement. High schools give the title most, and many middle schools name one at grade 8 graduation.
A good valedictorian award names the student, the school, the class and the date, and states the standard in the school's own words, such as highest cumulative GPA. It is usually signed by the principal or head of school, often with the class adviser or registrar. The designs here come as certificates in A4 and US Letter and as digital badges, so the family can frame the paper and the graduate can share the honor online.

FAQ
Questions, answered
The valedictorian finishes first in the graduating class and traditionally gives the farewell address at commencement. The salutatorian finishes second and traditionally gives the opening address, the salutation, at the start of the ceremony. Many schools give both students an award at the same honors event.
Each school or district sets its own rules, usually in its student handbook or board policy. Most use the cumulative grade point average over all years of high school, and many weight honors, advanced and college-level courses. Some also require a minimum number of years at the school or a clean conduct record.
Many schools name co-valedictorians when two or more students tie at the top, and some have replaced the single title with honors for every student above a set grade point average. The certificate should then say co-valedictorian or name the honor the school actually uses.
The principal or head of school usually signs it, since the class ranking is a school honor. A second signature often comes from the class adviser, the counselor or the registrar who confirms the ranking; a district may add the superintendent when it presents the award at a district ceremony.
Most schools announce the valedictorian in the final weeks of senior year, once final grades are in, and present the award at a senior honors night or at the commencement ceremony itself, where the valedictory address is given.
Yes. Writing the class year, such as Class of 2026, makes the record clear for college applications and family archives years later. Add it to the program or wording when you issue the certificate so the same design can be used again each year.
