Design notes

The top of the page works like the label on an extinguisher: a ruled band with the five classes of fire, A, B and C solid in red and D and K in quiet outline. Under it the record is centred: the name, the program, a short statement, six skills, a ruled row with duration, standard, issue date and valid-until date, then two signatures on either side of the QR and credential ID. It suits any workplace that files its records upright.

About

Fire Extinguisher Training Certificate, Label Portrait

Extinguisher training ends when each person has picked the right extinguisher for a class of fire and used it in a drill, pulling the pin, aiming at the base, squeezing and sweeping. Employers record that on a certificate for the training file, and a portrait page fits the binders and folders where safety records live, next to drill logs and equipment checks. Training companies, insurers' risk teams and school or hospital estates offices issue it too.

Wording on the template“Learned how fire starts and spreads, which extinguisher suits each class of fire and how to use one safely, and how to raise the alarm and prevent fires at work.”

Subject: name, your fire safety training certificate is ready

Hi name,

Thank you for taking part in our fire safety training. You now know how fires start and spread, which extinguisher to use on each class of fire, and how to use one with the PASS method, and you put it into practice in the drill.

Your certificate is ready. Open it to see it, download a copy to print for your training file, or share it on LinkedIn. It shows when your refresher is due, and we will remind you before then.

Thank you for helping keep everyone here safe.

Post for the recipient to share

Today I completed fire safety training at work. I learned how fires start and spread, which extinguisher to use on each class of fire, and how to use one with the PASS method, and I got to practise on a real extinguisher in the drill. Small skills, but the kind you want everyone in the building to have. #FireSafety #WorkplaceSafety

Printing

Printing it well

Print at actual size

Choose “Actual size” or 100% in the print dialog, not “Fit to page”, so the margins and the QR code keep their size.

Use card, not paper

A matte or silk card of 200–300 gsm (about 80–110 lb cover) feels like an award and does not curl in a frame.

Frame it

A4 fits a standard 21 × 29.7 cm frame; US Letter fits an 8.5 × 11 in frame, or an 11 × 14 in frame with a mat. Hang it upright, as designed.

Mind the edges

Most home printers leave a thin white border. For a design that runs to the edge, use a print shop or your printer’s borderless setting.

Certificate or badge?

Send both. They do different jobs.
